Low Friction Spring Energized Seal
When traditional seals cannot form a leak proof fitting surface, spring seals may be the solution. Compared to traditional similar products, they can withstand more heat and pressure, making them a popular alternative for mechanical related sealing applications.
Seals are usually exposed to heat and pressure. If oil or coolant flows through the machine, the machine may warm up. When oil or coolant is heated, it will expand. This expansion will generate pressure in the channels through which oil or coolant flows. Assuming there is a seal, it will also be exposed to this heat and pressure.
Spring seals are designed to withstand heat and pressure. When exposed to hot pressurized oil or coolant or hot pressurized gas they will compress. They will essentially become smaller and more compact. Spring seals will store the mechanical energy generated by heat and pressure, allowing them to maintain a leak proof mating surface.
There are different types of seals. The definition of spring seals is their ability to store mechanical energy. Some of them are composed of O-rings, while others are composed of washers. Anyway, they can store mechanical energy.
