Core Structure & Working Principle
At its heart, the seal features a dual-component design optimized for pump dynamics:
PTFE-Based Seal Body: Fabricated from carbon fiber-reinforced PTFE (CFR-PTFE) or other high-performance PTFE composites, the seal body boasts a friction coefficient as low as 0.1 (ASTM D1894) and exceptional dimensional stability. This material exhibits near-absolute chemical resistance, withstanding acids, alkalis, solvents, hydraulic oils, and food-grade media without swelling or degradation .
Energizing Spring: Embedded within the seal body, the helical spring (typically 316L stainless steel or Elgiloy) provides constant radial preload. When installed in pumps, the spring force-augmented by system fluid pressure-biases the seal lip against the mating surface, creating a tight, adaptive seal .
The working principle leverages dynamic compensation: the spring automatically adjusts for minor eccentricities, thermal expansion, and seal lip wear (up to 0.01mm precision), ensuring consistent contact pressure even during pump start-ups, shutdowns, or intermittent operation . This self-adaptive mechanism eliminates leakage caused by static seal fatigue, a common failure point in conventional pump seals.
