This is a spring-actuated, pressure-assisted seal. The seal is designed to be watertight and has several important physical properties: resistance to chemicals and solvents, low coefficient of friction, ability to withstand extreme heat, cold, and high pressure.
In addition to these factors, the final design solution depends on the type of application, the operating conditions, the customer's requirements and specifications, and the system itself. Is the state of mechanical movement static, dynamic, radial or axial seal? What is the media, hardware, groove size, surface finish, etc.?
