What is Spring Energized Seal

Spring energized seal is a spring powered U-shaped cup that uses various jacket profiles, spring types, and materials in rod and piston, face, and rotary seal configurations. When elastic seals cannot meet the temperature range, chemical resistance, or friction requirements, they can be used.

 

The jacket profile is made of PTFE and other high-performance polymers. Spring types include corrosion-resistant alloy materials, including stainless steel, Elgiloy alloy, and Hastelloy alloy.

 

The spring empowering sealing lip and spring empowering device will be compressed when installed in the sealing gland. The elastic spring responds with a constant force, pushing out the sealing lip and forming an airtight seal on the sealing surface. As pressure is introduced, the seal will expand, increasing the sealing force beyond the force provided by the spring and sheath materials.
