The ball valve spring energized lip seal is a composite structure consisting of three core components, each playing an indispensable role in ensuring sealing integrity:

Lip Seal Body (Polymer Jacket)

The outer jacket is made of high-performance polymers, with common materials including PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), PEEK (polyether ether ketone), UHMWPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene), and filled variants (such as PTFE filled with carbon fiber or glass fiber). This polymer layer directly contacts the ball valve's sealing surface, providing low friction, chemical resistance, and wear resistance. The lip-shaped design of the jacket is tailored to fit the spherical surface of the ball valve core, ensuring a tight initial contact.

Energizing Spring

The internal energizing spring is typically crafted from stainless steel (316SS, 17-7PH) or Hastelloy, with common configurations like helical coil springs, V-springs, or canted coil springs. The spring is embedded within the polymer jacket's cavity, acting as the core power source for the seal. It generates continuous radial or axial force to keep the lip in close contact with the sealing interface, compensating for any gaps caused by material wear, thermal expansion, or pressure fluctuations.

Reinforcement or Retaining Structure (Optional)

For large-diameter or high-pressure ball valves, some seals are equipped with a metal reinforcement ring (usually stainless steel) at the base of the polymer jacket. This structure prevents the seal from being extruded into the valve's clearance under high pressure, enhancing the seal's structural stability and service life.
