Polyacetal (POM)

Properties It is crystalline thermoplastic plastic with obvious melting point of 165 ~ 175 ℃. Its property is closest to that of metal. It is generally called plastic steel.

POM is characterized by good strength, hardness and rigidity at −40 ℃. Because POM is a highly crystalline compound, it is essentially opaque white, but can be made into other colors. POM density between 1.410–1.420 g / cm³.

The homopolymer of POM is a semi-crystalline polymer (75-85% crystallinity) and a melting point of 175 ° C. POM's copolymers have slightly lower melting points, approximately 162–173 ° C.

POM is a hard but low coefficient of friction material. However, it is easy for polymer degradation to occur under acid catalysis. Both homopolymers and copolymers of POM have a group of connected ends that are resistant to depolymerization through capping. For copolymers, the second unit is usually a C2 (ethylene glycol) or C4 (1,4-butanediol) unit.
